Over the past few weeks I have been helping my sister in law plan out my goddaughter to be baptism. We are going to create a fun dessert table for the hall along with actually making the cake our self. So after searching online for cake ideas we found one that is just beautiful that we are going to try and create. This cake is two tier with beautiful gun paste peony flowers on top. We are both creative people and enjoy baking so the cake part should be easy however we needed some practice on the flowers. So after buying the supplies and watching numerous youtube videos on how to make a Peony flower I went to work.
My first attempt wasn’t bad but found that you actually need to let the petals dry in-between stages, as it’s much easier to work with. I was a little impatient for this one and couldn’t wait, which of course made it harder to put together as the petals keep falling off the wires.
Then after making the middle and attaching one layer of petals I decided to add some colour to the edges of the petals. Just enough pink to give it some depth as I didn’t want too much colour as I thought the white was classic.
My second and third attempt were much better as I had prepared the petals the night before and let them completely dry and they were more manageable the next day. I prepared enough petals to make a couple more and think I’ve got the hang of it!
